A viral video has surfaced showing the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in a jubilant mood following the Supreme Court’s verdict on the political crisis rocking Rivers State.
The apex court on Friday delivered a ruling ordering the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant General of the Federation to halt the disbursement of financial allocations to the Rivers State government.
The court stated that the directive would remain in place until Governor Siminalayi Fubara ceases all “illegal, unlawful, and unconstitutional activities.”
A five-man panel of justices led by Justice Musa Uwani Aba-Aji also declared it unlawful for Fubara to operate with only four out of the 32 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The court further directed the reinstatement of the 27 lawmakers led by Martin Amaewhule — a known ally of Wike — to resume legislative duties immediately.
In addition, the Supreme Court nullified the local government elections held on October 5, 2024, describing the exercise as illegal and invalid.

Reacting to the judgment, Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, shared a video on X showing the former Rivers State governor celebrating with former Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The video captured the duo singing and praising God to the song, “I never knew He will honour me this way.”
Olayinka, in a caption accompanying the video, took a swipe at Governor Fubara, referring to him as the “Opobo Judas of Rivers,” while asserting that the Supreme Court ruling had reaffirmed Martins Amaewhule’s position as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The ruling is seen as a significant twist in the ongoing political tussle between Wike and his estranged political godson, Fubara, which has deepened the crisis in Rivers State.
