Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has mocked Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), saying the former Anambra State governor could only win the 2027 presidential election on social media.
Wike made the remark on Saturday during a stakeholders’ town hall meeting in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he questioned Obi’s ability to govern the country.
“Truly speaking, I give Obi president of social media. If you were voting for the president of social media, I would vote for him,” the minister said.

Wike also described Obi as a stingy politician, arguing that Nigeria’s economy could not be entrusted to him.
The minister has repeatedly criticised Obi and other opposition figures as political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to take shape.
Wike, who is also involved in political mobilisation for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja and Rivers State, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure re-election.
His latest comments add to the exchanges between supporters of the ruling party and opposition politicians as contenders prepare for the next presidential contest.
