The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on Abuja residents to hold political leaders accountable for the promises they make during elections.
Wike gave the charge on Wednesday, September 3, during the flag-off of the reconstruction and dualisation of Karu road, from Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction, and other township roads.
“You have to hold us accountable when you have fulfilled part of your covenant by voting for people, ask them this question, you told that when we vote for you, this is what you are going to do for us, have you done it?” the minister said.
According to him, President Bola Tinubu pledged to improve both the city and its satellite towns, a promise he noted was now being realised.

He explained that bad roads had long defined many communities but added that ongoing projects were changing that reality.
The minister cited the newly flagged-off water supply project for Karu, Orozo, and Karishi as evidence of government’s efforts.
He also recalled that the Nyanya–Karishi express road, once in poor condition, had already been rehabilitated.
Wike urged Abuja Municipal Area Council residents to support their Chairman, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, in the coming election, saying leaders who can access government channels are better positioned to bring development to their people.
“If I were you, continue to support him because it means that he has the people of Karu at heart, it means that he has the people of AMAC at heart,” Wike said.
