Wilfried Nancy Sacked as Celtic Manager After 3-1 Loss to Rangers

Celtic Football Club has sacked manager Wilfried Nancy, the club confirmed on Monday, January 5, 2026, just 33 days after his appointment.

The decision comes two days after a 3‑1 home defeat to Rangers in the Old Firm derby on January 3, 2026, a result that intensified pressure on the coach amid a poor run of form.

Nancy, 48, joined Celtic from MLS side Columbus Crew, where he won the MLS Cup.

His brief spell at Parkhead saw the club win only two of eight matches, suffering six defeats, including a Scottish League Cup final loss to St Mirren and a heavy Europa League defeat to AS Roma.

The derby loss, in which Celtic led 1‑0 at halftime before conceding three goals, proved decisive.

Alongside Nancy, assistants Kwame Ampadu, Jules Gueguen, and Maxime Chalier have departed, while Paul Tisdale, head of football operations, has also left the club.

Nancy had succeeded interim manager Martin O’Neill, who had steadied the team following Brendan Rodgers’ resignation in late October 2025.

Celtic currently sit second in the Scottish Premiership, six points behind leaders Hearts.

The club has not named a successor but will begin a search to steady both domestic and European campaigns.
