Residents of Kasuwan-Garba, a town in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, on Saturday evening lynched and set ablaze a food vendor identified as Amaye over alleged blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at her restaurant after a customer jokingly expressed interest in marrying her, referencing the tradition of the Prophet.
The victim, Amaye was said to have responded in a manner considered offensive, sparking outrage that quickly escalated into mob violence.
A source, who preferred anonymity, told newsmen on Sunday that the woman was first taken to the palace of the District Head of Kasuwan-Garba, who then handed her over to security operatives for investigation.
Subsequently, the mob overwhelmed the security operatives and lynched her.

Confirming the incident, Chairman of Mariga LGA, Abbas Adamu Kasuwan-Garba, said normalcy had been restored in the town.
Similarly, the Spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said, “On 30/8/2025 at about 2pm, report received indicated that one Amaye, a female of Kasuwan-Garba, Mariga LGA made some comments against the Islamic prophet.
“Unfortunately, it led to a mob attack and she was set ablaze before the reinforcement of the security teams. Meanwhile, efforts are being made to ensure that arrests are effected, investigated and prosecuted”.
