Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved N31 million for 31 verified indigenes who recently returned from South Africa.
The beneficiaries will receive N1 million each as immediate relief, according to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku.
The state government has also begun profiling the returnees to assess their individual circumstances and socio-economic needs.

The findings will inform further support for sustainable reintegration and access to social protection programmes.
The intervention comes amid the ongoing return of Nigerians from South Africa. In June, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, approved N1 million each for 250 Imo indigenes repatriated from the country to aid their rehabilitation and reintegration.
Abia said the latest assistance was aimed at helping the returnees regain stability and rebuild their livelihoods, while assuring them of continued government support.
The government reiterated that Abia remains home to all its indigenes, regardless of their circumstances.
