Yari to Matawalle: Join APC, vacate your seat as gov

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has been warned to get ready to vacate his seat if he dumps his Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress.

A former governor of the state, Abdulaziz Yari, gave the warning to Matawalle, saying that his advice was based on the ruling of the Supreme Court, which brought the PDP to power in 2019.

Yari gave the warning during the sharing of N1.3bn assorted grains he bought for the APC supporters as Ramadan gifts. The gift was distributed at the secretariat of the APC in Gusau on Sunday.

Yari, who was represented by Senator Kabiru Marafa, added that nobody had informed them either verbally or in writing of Matawalle’s alleged move to defect to the APC.

Noting that the Supreme Court annulled the election of the APC candidates in 2019 and declared the PDP candidates as winners who would remain in power till 2023, he said, “As such, until after that period, any PDP elected officer who defects to another party must also vacate his seat going by the court’s judgment.”

According to Yari, Matawalle is only being misled by some people to join the APC “forgetting the circumstances that have made him to become the governor of the state.”
