Popular Nigerian rapper and singer, Ycee, has expressed concern over what he described as the growing culture of celebrating ignorance and declining academic standards among Nigerian youths.
The rapper made the remarks during a podcast interview shared on Instagram on Wednesday, where he spoke about education, youth culture and societal values in the country.
In the video, Ycee argued that society was increasingly making excuses for ignorance rather than encouraging intellectual growth and education
“It’s like we are trying so much to accommodate unintelligent people and ignorant people because we don’t want them to feel bad. So, now they are like the majority,” he said.
The music star also lamented what he described as a steady erosion of educational values in Nigeria, expressing concern about the direction of the country’s learning culture.
“There’s a massive attack on the educational system in Nigeria,” he added.

According to Ycee, academic excellence, knowledge and intellectual curiosity are no longer viewed by many young people as key pathways to success.
Instead, he said, internet fame, viral popularity and cybercrime-associated lifestyles have become more attractive to a growing number of youths.
The rapper further criticised the increasing influence of what he referred to as “Yahoo culture” and “Peller culture,” arguing that the celebration of controversial online content and instant fame sends the wrong message to impressionable young people.
He suggested that when society rewards attention-seeking behaviour over education, hard work and critical thinking, it creates unhealthy role models for future generations.
Ycee’s comments have since generated reactions on social media, with many users agreeing with his observations and expressing concern about the state of education and youth values in the country.
Others, however, argued that broader economic challenges and limited opportunities have contributed to the shift in priorities among many young Nigerians.
