Police in Lagos state has refused to comment or take any action after an autopsy report conducted on a salesgirl, Jumoke Oyeleke killed during the Yoruba Nation rally in Ojota, Lagos was released.
FirstNews had gathered that the report of the autopsy which was conducted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, revealed that the victim died of a gunshot.
This came after the police, through its spokesperson, had earlier claimed that the victim was stabbed.
But a post-mortem examination conducted on the 25-year-old at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, on Monday revealed she died due to the penetration of a bullet.
The autopsy report which was signed by one Dr S.S. Soyomi of LASUTH, showed that Jumoke died from a “missile injury to the chest, haemopericardium, and disruption of the heart and lungs.”
Since the report was released, police have failed to issue any statement to indicate their concern on the matter.
The victim’s mother had earlier alleged that some police officers threatened to shoot her when she demanded to see her daughter’s corpse.
Recall that the Lagos state government had insisted on investigating the cause of death of the salesgirl and even had vowed to punish any officer found wanting.
Jumoke was killed by a stray bullet that penetrated her during the protest for the Yoruba Nation at Ojota on July 3rd.
Some of the operatives reportedly fired gunshots, tear gas canisters, and water cannons to disperse the demonstrators and journalists shortly after the rally took off.
She was displaying drinks at her boss’ shop in a compound close to the rally ground when security men chased some agitators into the premises amid shootings.
She was said to have been hit by a stray bullet and her corpse taken away by police.
