Young Thug Released After Plea Deal in RICO Case, Avoids 45-Year Sentence

…rapper to serve 15 years of probation, conduct anti-gang workshops for youth

American rapper Jeffery Williams, fondly called Young Thug, has been released from prison after two years following a plea deal in his prolonged racketeering case.

Recall that he was initially arrested in May 2022 in a major gang bust, with 28 individuals indicted on a total of 56 charges for alleged violations of Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act and criminal gang activity.

As one of the founding members of the group known as YSL (“Young Slime Life”), he faced significant accusations, including conspiracy to violate the RICO Act and gang-related offenses.

On the 31st of October, 2024, Young Thug entered a no-contest plea to the RICO and gang leadership charges, while pleading guilty to additional charges, which included gun and drug-related offenses.

Following his plea, he received a sentence that includes 15 years of probation, which could eventually reduce his overall time served if he complies with its terms.

Additionally, he is required to conduct anti-gang workshops for youth four times a year and complete 100 hours of community service annually.

While prosecutors initially sought a 45-year sentence, 25 years of which would be served in prison with the remainder as probation, Georgia Superior Court Judge Paige Whitaker opted to reduce the sentence, allowing for a lighter probation-focused outcome.
