Yuletide: Chairmanship hopeful urges collaborative support for less-privileged

Chairmanship hopeful for Ojokoro Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Dr. Oladipupo Okeyomi, has again called for collaboration of society’s stakeholders in bringing succour to the less-privileged.

Okeyomi, known in political circles as Carry Go, gave the remarks at the grand finale and presentation of awards in the 10th edition of Carry Go Day, held in Ojokoro community, on Wednesday.

The event, which had as theme, “Decade of Empowerment and Political Emancipation”, also coincided with Okeyomi’s unbroken tradition of feting the poor during the Yuletide.

“As we all know, no matter how rich a society’s economy is, there will still be people struggling for survival; that I think is the way human existence is destined.

“So the onus is on the government at all levels, corporate bodies, and wealthy individuals to collaborate and give support to the less-privileged, especially now that Nigeria is going through a trying period under her economic reforms,” he counselled.

Okeyomi, who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) remarked that under his non-governmental organisation, the Change Agent Foundation International (CAFI), several thousands of Nigerians had benefitted through empowerment programmes, scholarship schemes and sundry supports.

He said the CAFI had also sought political emancipation for the locals through regular training and awareness programmes, so they could hold their elected leaders accountable and also shun vote-buying for the purpose of credible elections.

“For instance, the CAFI has provided various work tools for over three thousand artisans in Lagos and Ogun communities since its establishment in 2012.

“Besides, over 2000 indigent students had been offered tution-free scholarship by the CAFI, apart from helping to restore many out-of-school children to the classrooms,” he enthused.

He, on the occasion, enjoined Nigerians to be patient with the administration of President Bola Tinubu, noting that some pains are inescapable in the attempt to fix any rot.

“Already, this administration is working on broken down refineries in the aftermath of fuel subsidy removal, so that once the refineries are fully back, the pump price of petrol will naturally drop.

“Again, many road projects have been awarded across the country, while the federal government has rolled out many palliative measures to cushion the effect of this reform measure; this is the way to go,” he applauded.
