In Zamfara, a remarkable turn of events is reshaping trust between the government and its citizens. Over the past 15 months, the Zamfara State Government says it has returned 3,000 rustled animals recovered by security agents to their rightful owners.
The update came during a briefing between Sheikh Sa’idu Maikwano, Chairman of the Committee on the Verification of Recovered Rustled Animals, and the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Nakwada.
The recovered animals cows, sheep, and goats, among others are now back with those who lost them, signaling a quiet victory in the fight against cattle rustling.
Sheikh Maikwano praised the SSG’s active oversight and thanked Gov Dauda Lawal for his unwavering backing of the committee’s work.

He also revealed another outcome of the committee’s activities: N120 million recovered from auctioned overstayed animals. The funds, he said, were transferred to the state Zakkat Board account in accordance with laid down procedures.
In response, the SSG reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to ensure that every rustled animal retrieved by security forces finds its way home.
He applauded the committee for staying focused and delivering results.
