French football icon Zinedine Zidane has officially been named the new head coach of the France national team, signing a four-year contract that will see him take charge until 2030.
The French Football Federation confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, with the former Real Madrid manager set to officially assume his new role on August 1.
Zidane, regarded as one of France’s greatest-ever footballers, expressed his delight at being entrusted with leading the national team.
Speaking after his appointment, the 54-year-old described managing Les Bleus as both a privilege and a source of immense pride.
“I’ve often said it: there’s nothing greater than the French national team. So it’s a joy and obviously a great source of pride to become the manager,” Zidane said.

The appointment marks Zidane’s first managerial role since leaving Real Madrid, where he enjoyed remarkable success, guiding the Spanish giants to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles, two La Liga crowns and several domestic and international trophies.
As a player, Zidane remains one of France’s most celebrated football figures, inspiring the nation to its first FIFA World Cup triumph in 1998 before helping the team win the UEFA European Championship two years later.
His arrival ushers in a new era for the French national team, with expectations high that the legendary midfielder can replicate his club success on the international stage as France prepares for upcoming major tournaments.
