Super Eagles players Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Bright Osayi-Samuel have expressed grief over the fatal road crash involving British-Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua, in Makun, Ogun State, which claimed two lives.
The accident occurred on Monday when a Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and his associates reportedly rammed into a stationary truck. Two occupants of the vehicle, identified as Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, died at the scene.
Joshua sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital in Lagos, while his promoters, Matchroom, later confirmed that the former world heavyweight champion is in a stable condition.
Reacting to the incident after Nigeria’s 3–1 victory over Uganda at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco on Tuesday, Osimhen described the development as devastating.
“It’s devastating news. He’s been one of the huge celebrities that put Nigeria on the map. Something like this affected a lot of Nigerians. Condolences to the families of the deceased. It’s not a beautiful thing to lose a life,” the Galatasaray striker said.
Osimhen’s teammate, Bright Osayi-Samuel, said the Super Eagles squad was shocked when news of the crash broke.
“It wasn’t great, especially as it happened back home as well. Thankfully he was okay. It’s tragic to hear that two of his friends died. We just hope he gets better,” the Birmingham City player told ESPN.

Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi, also expressed sadness over the incident, noting that the team felt the pain deeply.
“When we heard he lost his family, it was really sad. I hope he can recover from that. I wish him strength, and to his family and the families of the guys who died as well,” the Beşiktaş midfielder said.
Joshua had recorded a sixth-round knockout victory over YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul just 10 days before the fatal crash.
