$130,000 Salary, 24-Hour Power: Chelle’s Demands Spark NFF Contract Debate

New details have emerged from the proposed contract submitted by Eric Chelle, head coach of Nigeria’s senior national team, outlining extensive technical, welfare and operational demands, including uninterrupted electricity at his residence, a $130,000 monthly salary package, and complete authority over player selection.

Chelle, a former Mali national team coach who currently leads the Nigeria national football team, emphasised that stable power supply is critical to modern football management, particularly for tactical analysis, coordination with technical staff and continuous monitoring of players.

According to the proposal, the coach requested accommodation in a secure environment supported by “24-hour uninterrupted power supply,” stating that constant electricity would enable effective performance analysis and communication with players and backroom personnel.

The contract terms also include the provision of a private sport utility vehicle with chauffeur, security personnel and GPS tracking to facilitate official movements within and outside the country.

Beyond personal logistics, Chelle outlined conditions relating to his technical crew, requesting that the Nigeria Football Federation issue formal employment contracts for his assistants and personal aide.

Salaries, bonuses and allowances are expected to follow the federation’s structure and be paid no later than the 30th day of each month.

Operational autonomy forms a central part of the proposal, with the coach demanding the right to determine opponents for international friendly matches and freedom to select players without external interference.

The agreement also seeks approval for regular scouting trips, allowing Chelle to monitor Nigerian players competing abroad while also attending domestic league matches to identify talents for integration into various national teams, including senior and youth categories.

Additional requests include a fully furnished office equipped with internet access and a projector for match analysis, provision of technical equipment based on coaching requirements, and mandatory monthly meetings involving all national team coaches to ensure coordination across age-grade sides.

Family welfare provisions were also captured in the proposal, with business-class flight tickets requested for the coach and his spouse, alongside economy-class travel arrangements for their children.

The financial terms stipulate a proposed monthly salary of $130,000, covering Chelle, his technical staff and personal assistant, as negotiations over the final structure of the agreement continue between both parties.
