14 roasted alive as bus summersaults, explodes on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

No fewer than 14 passengers, including three children, were on Thursday night burnt to death in an accident along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

It was gathered that a silver Toyota RAV 4 with registration number, LND 13 GS; a silver Toyota Camry marked, GGE 369 GJ and a Mazda bus with an unidentified number, were involved in the accident which occurred around 10:20pm on Thursday.

A commercial bus, which allegedly wrongly overtook another vehicle reportedly hit a faulty stationary Toyota Rav 4 parked in the middle of the road.

The driver of the bus was said to have lost control as the vehicle summersaulted several times and burst into flames.

Spokesman of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the accident on Friday morning.

The TRACE spokesman said 14 passengers, including three children, were burnt to death in the auto crash.

“In all, 17 passengers were in the bus when the crash happened, with three seriously injured, and 14 burnt beyond recognition, among which are three kids,” he said.

Akinbiyi said TRACE operatives and other security operatives rushed two of the victims to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre while another was taken to the General Hospital, Gbagada, Lagos.

TRACE, while sympathising with the family of the dead victims, warned drivers to “desist from speeding, wrongful overtaking and overbearing attitude that exposes other road users to risk and danger.”
