A devastating incident unfolded on Sunday in Fegge, Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra State, as an 18-year-old apprentice allegedly killed his employer during a dispute.
According to reports, the apprentice, identified as Chiemerie, reportedly attacked his master, Iyke, with a pestle following a confrontation.
The disagreement is said to have started after the employer reprimanded the teenager over alleged misconduct, pilfering money and taking drugs.
First Daily correspondent learnt that the victim was a trader at Ogbo Ogwu Market, one of the city’s major trading hubs.”
Confirming the incident to journalists on Monday, the Spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the suspect has been arrested and the pestle recovered.
He said, “The incident happened on Sunday. The suspect is already in custody. Also, the pestle he used has been recovered.

“The boss scolded the suspect for his behaviour of pilfering money in the shop, taking drugs and coming back late at night.
“It resulted into altercation and the situation escalated, resulting in the suspect using a pestle from the kitchen to hit his boss on the head,” Ikenga added.
Recall that in 2023, the Ondo State Police Command arrested a 20-year-old apprentice, Josiah Godwin, for allegedly hacking his master, Saviour Joseph, to death.
After killing the deceased, the suspect dumped his corpse in a well at a site where they were working.
