Troops of the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force have successfully foiled an attack by armed bandits on Ankpali Village in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to intelligence sources quoted by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, on Thursday, the incident occurred when suspected bandits reportedly stormed the community.
It was gathered that a distress call was received alerting authorities that the village was under attack.
Troops and police personnel were immediately mobilised to the area, with reinforcements from the Nigerian Army and the 80 Police Mobile Force (PMF) deployed to support the operation.
In the ensuing gun battle, the security forces overpowered the assailants, forcing them to retreat.
One of the suspected bandits was shot dead during the exchange of fire. His body was later recovered and deposited at a local mortuary.

Security sources disclosed that operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and apprehend those involved in the attack.
Residents of Ankpali Village commended the swift response of the security agencies, noting that their timely intervention prevented further loss of lives and destruction of property.
Authorities have assured the public of continued efforts to maintain peace and security in the area.
