The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may witness the return of two major political figures, as Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro has disclosed that conversations are ongoing to bring back Peter Obi and former President Goodluck Jonathan to the fold before the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, August 26, Moro revealed that party stakeholders have approached Obi with an invitation to rejoin the PDP.
“So, in the run-up to 2027, I am aware certain individuals have been talking to Peter Obi, ‘Hey, come back home, this is what we are likely to do, and if you come, you stand a chance of being the candidate’,” he said.
The senator representing Benue South also noted that similar discussions were happening around Jonathan. According to him, “Some persons are talking to the former president to come and run. It is a possibility.”
Jonathan, who took over as president in 2010 after the death of Musa Yar’Adua, led the country until 2015 when he lost re-election to Muhammadu Buhari.

Since then, he has largely stayed away from active politics, rarely attending PDP meetings or publicly expressing interest in contesting again.
Obi, on the other hand, left the PDP in 2022 after serving as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2019 election.
He joined the Labour Party (LP) and contested the 2023 polls, where he finished third behind President Bola Tinubu of the APC and Atiku of the PDP, securing over six million votes. His campaign resonated strongly with young Nigerians.
With less than two years before the next general elections, Obi has teamed up with opposition leaders, including Atiku, under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He has already indicated an interest in running for president again, but the platform he will eventually use remains uncertain.
