2027: APC Creating Party Factions to Weaken Opposition — Dele Momodu

Publisher and politician, Dele Momodu, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of deliberately engineering divisions within opposition parties to weaken their chances ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Friday, September 12, during an interview on Channels Television, Momodu said, “It’s obvious that the ruling party is jittery. The ruling party does not want any strong competition in 2027 in particular.

“They are not too bothered by the governors and the rest of them. But they want a sole candidate, if possible. All political parties would rise up and endorse one man, and that is the President and Commander-in-Chief.”

The member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) argued that the ruling party’s strategy has been consistent across political platforms.

According to him, “They knew the government agents would attempt to thwart their efforts, like they have done in Labour, like they are doing in PDP, and they’re doing in NNPP — creating factions everywhere.”

His comments followed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) recognition of the ADC leadership led by former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola, a move that has sparked controversy within the party.

Momodu defended the new ADC leadership, saying, “The conveners of ADC worked extremely hard behind the scenes to arrive at where we are now.”

Some members of the ADC, including former presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu, have threatened to challenge INEC’s decision in court.

But Momodu suggested that such disputes only highlight what he sees as the APC’s wider attempt to destabilise opposition parties before the next election.
