2027: APC Eyes 10m South-West Votes For Tinubu — Bamidele

The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, has disclosed that the All Progressives Congress has set an ambitious target to secure at least 10 million votes from the South-West region for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Bamidele made this known on Monday, March 9, in Ado Ekiti during the inauguration of a 57-member governorship campaign council for the re-election bid of Biodun Oyebanji.

The Senate leader, who also chairs the Ekiti APC 2026 Governorship Election Campaign Council, explained that the party plans to achieve the target through aggressive voter mobilisation and increased participation in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

According to him, the forthcoming June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State will serve as a referendum on the performance of the incumbent governor.

“The June 20 election will be a referendum to affirm and confirm the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in Ekiti State,” Bamidele said, expressing confidence that the poll would be “a walkover” for the APC based on what he described as the administration’s achievements.

He emphasised that preparations for the 2027 elections have already begun, noting that the party has designed a comprehensive mobilisation strategy across the six South-West states to deliver the projected votes for President Tinubu.

“As a party of conviction and vision, we have already set a target ahead of the 2027 elections. We have designed a mobilisation plan to deliver at least 10 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the six states of the South-West alone,” he stated.

Bamidele urged party leaders and members to intensify grassroots mobilisation by encouraging eligible residents to register as voters and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

He noted that although Ekiti State has an estimated population of about 3.8 million people, only 987,647 residents were registered voters as of 2023, highlighting the need to expand voter registration significantly.

The Senate leader said the party aims to increase voter registration in the state by at least 50 per cent before the ongoing CVR exercise concludes in August 2026.

“As we approach the 2027 elections, we must go house-to-house, street-to-street, and community-to-community to mobilise our brothers and sisters, our fathers and mothers, to enrol for the Continuous Voter Registration,” he said.

Bamidele also pledged to lead the governorship campaign with dedication to ensure the APC secures a decisive victory in the Ekiti election .

“We must work together as one indivisible party and approach the election in the spirit of harmony, oneness and unity. This is the path to our victory,” he added.

Responding, Governor Oyebanji expressed appreciation to the Senate leader for his continued support and commitment to the development of Ekiti State.

He assured supporters that his re-election campaign would focus on policies, programmes and development plans, rather than engaging in personal attacks against political opponents.

Oyebanji also urged candidates from other political parties to comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the Constitution, stressing the importance of maintaining a peaceful and credible electoral process.
