Wike Urges PDP Members To Drop Ego, Embrace Reconciliation

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party to put aside personal pride and pursue reconciliation instead of prolonging legal battles within the party.

Wike spoke on Monday, the 9th of March, 2026, after the appellate court dismissed an appeal filed by a faction of the party led by Taminu Turaki.

He described the judgment on the party’s Ibadan convention as a triumph for the rule of law.

The former governor of Rivers State said the court’s decision, which threw out several appeals and imposed heavy costs, shows the need for strict compliance with statutory provisions, the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.

According to him, once those laws are breached, the issue can no longer be treated as an internal party dispute and courts are justified to step in.

Wike cautioned that pursuing the matter further at the Supreme Court could harm the party, urging dissatisfied members to treat the ruling as a chance to rebuild unity.

“For me, it is an opportunity for everybody today to come back and see how we can salvage the party.
“Leave your ego. Leave your personal interests. Come back. Let’s sit down. Now we are here, can we see how we can forge ahead”, he asked.
