The Federal Commissioner representing Ekiti State at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Mrs Omowumi Ogunlola, has ruled out contesting for a seat in the National Assembly in the 2027 general elections.
Ogunlola, a former member of the House of Representatives, said her decision was informed by the need to concentrate on her current national assignment and ensure effective representation for Ekiti State at the commission.
She made the clarification during a media interaction in Ado Ekiti on Saturday amid speculations that she might seek to return to the House of Representatives to represent Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II.
The former lawmaker had been widely regarded as a strong contender for the seat due to her popularity, support base, and experience as a former state and federal legislator.
Addressing the speculation, Ogunlola said she had no intention of contesting the position in the next general elections.
“Let me be very clear: I will not be contesting for the House of Representatives in 2027. However, the future remains open, and I will continue to serve Ekiti State in every capacity I can, always prioritising the collective interest of our people above personal ambition,” she said.
She explained that the decision was reached after consultations with her political structure and other key stakeholders to ensure unity and clarity of purpose.
According to her, the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission currently has important national responsibilities that require stability and effective representation for Ekiti State.
“As a serving federal commissioner representing Ekiti State at RMAFC, I am entrusted with a critical national responsibility at a very strategic time. The commission plays a key role in revenue allocation and fiscal matters that directly impact states, including Ekiti,” she said.
Ogunlola added that by constitutional and ethical provisions, any public officer seeking elective office must first resign from such a position, a step she said could affect Ekiti State’s representation at the commission.

“Resignation at this time could have implications for Ekiti State’s interests, and I firmly believe that Ekiti is bigger than any individual ambition,” she said.
She noted that leadership requires wisdom and proper timing, stressing that her decisions are guided by what best serves the interest of Ekiti State and its people.
Ogunlola also disclosed that she had informed the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, of her decision and expressed appreciation for his support and guidance.
She also thanked her supporters, political associates, and members of the All Progressives Congress for their confidence and encouragement.
The RMAFC commissioner assured that her empowerment programmes and other initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the people would continue.
She reiterated her commitment to the development and progress of Ekiti State, urging residents to remain united and focused on building a stronger and more prosperous state.
