The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has announced plans to begin the public display of the personal particulars of candidates contesting the 2027 presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives elections from Saturday, August 1, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs Esther Emeh, the exercise is being conducted in line with Section 29 of the Electoral Act 2022 to enable members of the public to examine the documents submitted by candidates seeking elective offices.
INEC said the display would be held at its Lagos State office in Sabo-Yaba as well as the commission’s Local Government Area offices across the constituencies concerned.
The commission explained that the documents, submitted through Form EC9 by political parties, contain candidates’ personal information, educational credentials and sworn affidavits.
“Form EC9 contains the credentials, personal particulars and affidavits submitted by candidates sponsored by political parties,” INEC stated.
The electoral body encouraged political parties, candidates, stakeholders and the general public to inspect the documents throughout the display period.
It also reminded members of the public that anyone who discovers alleged false declarations or forged documents in a candidate’s submission has the right to challenge such information through the legal process provided under the Electoral Act.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the delivery of credible elections as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
The public display of candidates’ particulars is a statutory requirement under Nigeria’s electoral framework, providing citizens and stakeholders with an opportunity to scrutinise information submitted by political parties and their candidates before elections.
As part of its preparations for the 2027 polls, the commission has continued implementing key electoral activities, including candidate documentation, party nomination processes and other voter-related exercises.
Under Section 29 of the Electoral Act 2022, INEC is mandated to make candidates’ submitted particulars available for public inspection and provide an avenue for objections where necessary.
