The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced plans to make what it described as far-reaching decisions at its upcoming National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
The party, which controls Kano State, said the gathering scheduled for the 28th of August, 2025, would focus on strategies for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the party explained that the meeting will deliberate on issues including preparations for congresses and the national convention, assessment of the recent bye-election, and its plans for mass mobilisation and fresh membership registration.
According to the statement, the NEC will also examine the ongoing constitutional review to take a stand on key matters that the party believes are central to protecting Nigeria’s democracy.
The party further stressed that while discussions continue across the country on political alignments ahead of 2027, NNPP’s choices will be guided strictly by its founding values.
The statement read: “Specifically, on the various insinuations by analysts and public opinions on where NNPP stands ahead of the 2027 general election, our position remains what we have stated and restated over time.

“And this is to the effect that politics is dynamic but that our actions and decisions must be within the context of principles and values. The question of national interest is also crucial.
“So to this extent, NNPP is still open to the three options we have talked about in the past: to form a kind of alliance or coalition, remain as NNPP and prosecute the election as individual entity or support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election.
“These three options will be discussed at our NEC meeting on the 28th of August 2025, and to this extent, we appeal to all our members to remain calm as the ultimate decisions would be in the best interest of the people.”
Meanwhile, the NNPP urged its supporters to fully take part in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, either by registering for the first time or updating their details, while also preparing for the party’s nationwide mobilisation drive set to commence soon.
