The Anambra State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Charles Anueyiagu, has advocated a political alliance between former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) figure Rabiu Kwankwaso, arguing that such cooperation could significantly reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
Anueyiagu made the call on Thursday, April 30, during a press briefing in Awka, where he urged supporters of both movements to consider unifying their structures in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
He said a merger between the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements would bridge regional divides and strengthen their electoral competitiveness by combining support from both the northern and southern parts of the country.
According to him, both political groups are driven by a shared commitment to accountability, transparency, and improved governance.
“The Obidient and Kwankwasian movements are strong independent bodies serving the same purpose—to give Nigeria good governance,” he said.
Anueyiagu argued that such a coalition would represent a clear departure from what he described as a system that has failed to deliver meaningful progress to Nigerians.

He also pointed to the 2023 presidential election, suggesting that a combined vote tally for both politicians would have created a stronger opposition force.
“In the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi scored over eight million votes, while Rabiu Kwankwaso recorded over one million votes. If combined, the figures present a formidable force,” he said.
He expressed confidence that lessons from the last election had reinforced the determination of supporters and that a united platform could yield better results in future contests.
“The experience of the 2023 election has taught us valuable lessons. I believe that bringing these forces together will help salvage the country and deliver positive results,” he said.
Anueyiagu further emphasised that national renewal requires collaboration beyond ethnic and regional lines, calling on Nigerians to rally together in pursuit of accountable leadership.
“National rebirth is not the responsibility of one tribe but a collective duty. Nigerians must come together to confront hardship, restore accountability, and build a better future,” he added.
