The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has addressed growing speculations surrounding a potential 2027 presidential bid by former President Goodluck Jonathan under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Appearing on Arise Television on Thursday, August 7, the ACF’s National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Muhammad Baba, said the North would not be swayed simply by the idea of a single-term presidency.
Reports suggest that some PDP leaders are considering a joint ticket with Jonathan and former Kano governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as presidential and vice presidential candidates.
However, Baba warned that Jonathan’s eligibility to serve only one more term should not be used as bait to attract support from northern voters.

“The idea of a one-term presidency is not a constitutional requirement but a political tactic.
“The electorate should decide if a candidate deserves a second term, and that choice should not be predetermined,” he said.
Baba added that various political realignments ahead of 2027 are part of ongoing efforts to build strong coalitions capable of winning elections.
“Many politicians are weighing their options and trying out different alliances.
“These are early moves in a long race, and while it shows how seriously they take public opinion, it’s still premature to draw conclusions,” he said.
