With the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention fast approaching, the party’s governors are stepping up efforts to heal internal divisions and restore unity ahead of the crucial gathering scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
At a meeting of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) Protocol Sub-Committee in Abuja on Monday, October 6, Governors Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau reaffirmed their resolve to ensure the event strengthens the party’s foundation and credibility.
Governor Fintiri, who chairs the NCOC, promised a transparent process, assuring members that no effort would be spared to deliver a successful and credible convention.
“We are fully committed and will not leave any stone unturned. We are putting in our best and making sacrifices for a successful convention,” he said.
The convention is expected to elect 19 new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) as part of ongoing reforms to reposition the party.

However, concerns remain within the ranks of the PDP, particularly from loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who have expressed dissatisfaction with recent zoning and leadership decisions in some southern states.
Fintiri urged party members to look beyond personal interests and work together for the PDP’s survival and relevance, describing the party as “the biggest and most resilient political movement in sub-Saharan Africa.”
On his part, Governor Mutfwang said the enthusiasm among members reflected the PDP’s resilience and readiness to reclaim its leadership position.
“Today’s meeting demonstrates that the PDP is alive and serious about the convention,” he said.
He emphasised the importance of teamwork, adding that the committee’s work in Ibadan would play a decisive role in ensuring a smooth and credible national convention.
