40‑Foot Container Falls, Obstructs Eko Bridge Traffic

A 40‑foot shipping container fell off a truck at Ijora Olopa while ascending Eko Bridge early Thursday, January 22, 2026, partially blocking the roadway and slowing traffic into Lagos Island.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the container dislodged shortly before 7 a.m., prompting operatives to divert vehicles to alternative lanes while recovery efforts began.

The truck’s owner and driver arrived soon after the incident and are working with authorities to remove the container.

No injuries have been reported, and officials said normal traffic flow is expected once the roadway is cleared.

LASTMA warned motorists to exercise caution, emphasizing the importance of securing heavy loads, especially on busy bridges.

The incident adds to growing concerns over heavy-vehicle safety on Lagos’s major roadways, where similar accidents have caused significant disruptions.
