‘777’ Cult Celebration: Ogun Police Issue Strong Security Warning

The Ogun State Police Command has issued a strong warning against any form of illegal gathering or procession associated with the controversial “777” cult anniversary, as it intensifies security operations across the state to forestall violence.

The “777” date—July 7—has long been associated with cult-related violence in parts of Ogun, prompting authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance stance on any activity linked to the occasion.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, disclosed that the command is acting on credible intelligence about planned cult festivities that pose threats to public peace.

“The Ogun State Command wishes to alert the general public, especially young persons, on intelligence reports regarding planned cult-related celebrations popularly called ‘777’ across the state,” the statement read.

The command reaffirmed its readiness to clamp down on any illegal procession or anniversary event tied to cultism, warning that security operatives have been deployed across divisions and area commands for rapid response.

“Any attempt to stage unlawful gatherings, processions, or anniversary events linked to cultism will be met with swift and decisive police action,” Odutola said.

The police also issued a clear warning that individuals found in possession of firearms or other dangerous weapons will face immediate arrest and prosecution under existing laws.

Parents and guardians were urged to be proactive in warning their children and wards to avoid loitering or gathering in groups in public places, especially during this period.

“Young people are strongly urged to avoid loitering or forming clusters in public places,” she added. “The command will not hesitate to disperse suspicious gatherings that may threaten public peace.”

The heightened alert comes amid broader efforts by the Ogun State Police to suppress cult-related violence and maintain public safety, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas that have seen clashes in the past.

With the “777” anniversary falling today, the police have assured residents of increased patrols, intelligence surveillance, and rapid deployment units to ensure law and order are preserved throughout the state.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious movements or gatherings to nearby police divisions or emergency lines.
