In a statement released on Wednesday, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, expressed his gratitude and determination after the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal upheld his victory.
The tribunal affirmed his mandate following a petition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asuerinme Ighodalo, who had contested the September 2024 election result.
Okpebholo took to X to share his reaction, calling the victory a “gracious gift” from God and the people of Edo State. He emphasized that the win reflects the trust and belief of the citizens in his vision for a better, more prosperous state.
“This victory belongs to God and to every Edo citizen who believes in our collective vision for a better, more prosperous state,” Okpebholo wrote.

The governor also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its leadership for their unwavering support throughout the election and legal process. He commended their dedication to upholding democratic principles, reinforcing his commitment to governance.
With the legal hurdle now cleared, Okpebholo reiterated his resolve to continue delivering practical and transformative governance for the people of Edo State. “With this judgment, we move forward with even greater determination to deliver practical governance and drive the transformation of Edo State,” he affirmed.
He concluded his message with a call for unity, stating that the journey towards improving Edo State is far from over: “The journey continues. Together, we will make Edo great.”
The ruling is seen as a victory for Okpebholo and his party, and sets the stage for further political and developmental progress in the state.
