The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has raised alarms over what it describes as a lack of transparency in the management of local government funds by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
Speaking during a strategic meeting with party stakeholders on Saturday, PDP State Chairman, Hon. Bello Aliyu Goronyo, voiced concern over what he termed persistent financial difficulties confronting several local councils in the state.
The meeting, held at the PDP secretariat in Sokoto, brought together executives from the state, zonal, and local government levels.
Goronyo attributed the fiscal challenges to alleged lapses in governance under the current APC-led state government, warning that continued mismanagement could stall developmental efforts and disrupt essential services at the grassroots.
“There is an urgent need for transparency and accountability in handling local government resources,” Goronyo stated. “These councils are struggling financially, and this has direct consequences on the wellbeing of our people.”
He cited the growing infrastructure deficit in parts of the Sokoto metropolis — particularly limited access to safe drinking water — as evidence of poor prioritization by the state administration.
“Residents are grappling with daily challenges, and yet there appears to be little urgency from those in power,” he added. “It’s time to put the people first.”
Despite expressing dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs, Goronyo voiced confidence in the PDP’s ability to reclaim the governorship in the 2027 elections.

He emphasized that the party is working to rebuild its connection with the electorate by offering credible alternatives and pragmatic solutions to local challenges.
“We believe the people of Sokoto State deserve quality leadership and improved living conditions,” he said. “The PDP remains focused on providing solutions that meet the needs of our communities.”
As political momentum builds ahead of the 2027 polls, the PDP reiterated its intention to remain engaged with citizens, advocate for good governance, and present what it calls a people-centered vision for Sokoto State.
