Victor Boniface Close to AC Milan Move on Loan With €30m Buy Option

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface is on the verge of joining AC Milan from Bayer Leverkusen, with both clubs reaching an agreement for a season-long loan deal that carries a €30 million option to buy.

Reports on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, confirmed that Milan had tabled the proposal to Leverkusen, and negotiations have moved quickly.

Boniface’s agent was scheduled to travel to Italy on Thursday, August 21, 2025, to finalize personal terms with the Serie A side.

Boniface, 24, signed for Bayer Leverkusen in July 2023 from Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise in a deal worth €22.6 million.

In his debut season, he became one of the standout players in Germany, scoring 21 goals and providing 9 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

His contributions helped Leverkusen secure a historic domestic treble in the 2023/24 season — the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and German Super Cup.

However, during the 2024/25 campaign, his impact was reduced following injury setbacks and tactical changes under new coach Erik ten Hag.

He still managed 11 goals in 27 appearances, but his minutes were limited as Patrik Schick led the attack more frequently.

For Milan, the move comes as part of their strategy to strengthen the forward line after struggling for consistency in front of goal last season.

The Italian giants have been in the market for a long-term striker and see Boniface as a powerful, technically gifted option who fits into their tactical setup.

The structure of the agreement, a loan with an option to buy rather than an obligation gives Milan flexibility, while allowing Leverkusen to retain control of the player’s long-term future if he rediscovers form.

If completed, Boniface will become the latest Nigerian to feature for AC Milan, following in the footsteps of Taribo West, Nnamdi Oduamadi, and Taye Taiwo
