NCAA Probes Explosive Ibom Air Passenger-Crew Clash Amid Public Outcry

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has launched a formal investigation into the recent confrontation between a passenger, Comfort Emanson, and members of the Ibom Air crew.

Officials of the Authority on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting in Abuja with Julie Edwards, a crew member accused of playing a central role in the incident, alongside other staff directly involved.

The NCAA’s spokesperson, Michael Achimugu, confirmed the development in a statement shared on his X account on Thursday.

According to him, representatives from Aviation Security, Operations, Licensing, Training Standards, Legal, and Consumer Protection directorates were present to ensure a comprehensive and impartial review.

“Yesterday in Abuja, the NCAA team met with Julie Edwards and other members of the crew involved in the Comfort Emanson incident as part of investigations into that event,” Achimugu wrote. “The directorates are collaborating to ensure a proper conclusion to this investigation.”

The Authority is also scheduled to meet with Emanson later on Thursday, with her legal counsel expected to accompany her.

The dispute, which drew widespread attention following a viral video, involved allegations of assault after Emanson reportedly clashed with flight attendants and airport officials on a flight from Uyo to Lagos.

She was subsequently charged in court and remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre before being released, following a directive by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, asking the airline to withdraw its complaint.

The NCAA has since reassured the public of its commitment to fairness, professionalism, and safety in the aviation industry as the investigation continues.
