Mbah to FG: ‘Free Nnamdi Kanu, It’s Right Thing to Do’

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has renewed his appeal to the Federal Government for the release of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, stressing that it remains “the right thing to do.”

Mbah made the appeal on Monday, the 25th of August, 2025, while engaging participants in a question-and-answer session following his paper on “Leadership and Transformation” at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Enugu.

He revealed that his very first meeting with President Bola Tinubu after taking office focused on Kanu’s continued detention.

“My first visit to the President was about Nnamdi Kanu. I believe that the right thing to do is to release him. Hopefully, that will be done soon,” the governor stated.

Speaking further, Mbah noted that the once regular Monday sit-at-home protests linked to Kanu’s incarceration had stopped in Enugu.

He credited his administration’s efforts with restoring order and reopening the state for full social and economic activities.
