The 2025 August Meeting in Ugwunagbo, Abia State, turned tragic when popular entertainer Mrs. Nwandinma Dickson, widely known as Nwanyi Garri, collapsed and died while performing before a large crowd.
The annual August Meeting, recently hosted by the wife of the Abia State governor, drew women leaders, community stakeholders, and guests from across the state.
Mrs. Dickson, a 65-year-old native of Oza Umuebukwu in Nneji Autonomous Community, Ugwunagbo LGA, was billed to thrill the audience with her usual blend of dance and drama.
Eyewitnesses said she moved between canopies, engaging with guests and energizing the crowd, before suddenly, she stooped and slumped.
At first, many thought it was part of her act, but panic set in when she failed to respond.
The Mayor of Ugwunagbo Local Government Area immediately transported her to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
Family members later disclosed that Mrs. Dickson had initially been reluctant to attend this year’s August Meeting but eventually decided to perform out of commitment to the community.
