APC Faction Holds Gov Lawal Responsible for PDP Loss in Zamfara Bye-Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Congress has held Governor Dauda Lawal responsible for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) loss in the Kaura-Namoda South State Constituency bye-election in Zamfara State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced APC’s Kamilu Sa’idu as winner with 8,182 votes, while PDP candidate Muhammad Lawal Kurya secured 5,544 votes.

The rerun election took place in Sakajiki and Kyambarawa polling units after the earlier exercise was declared inconclusive.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the 27th of August, 2025, Comrade Gambo Danladi, spokesperson of the APC Youth Congress, rejected PDP’s allegations of electoral fraud and military involvement, stressing that the result was “a reflection of Governor Lawal’s poor performance.”

Danladi faulted the governor for failing to deliver on his campaign promises covering security, development, and economic growth. He argued that this failure played a major role in PDP’s defeat.

He further noted that the outcome signaled voter dissatisfaction, pointing out that “it was the first time a sitting governor in Zamfara would lose a bye-election under his watch.”

The group congratulated Kamilu Sa’idu on his win and called on the PDP to take responsibility for the defeat.
