Oladimeji Fabiyi, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart and longtime associate of ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has accused certain party leaders of betraying its core ideals.
He argued that the PDP’s lingering troubles stem from figures who neither respect its traditions nor share its original vision.
In a chat with Trust TV News, Fabiyi stated that most of those currently dominating the party’s leadership space had little or no role in its formative period. This, he said, explains their poor grasp of the values that once sustained the PDP.
“The PDP is in this mess today because many of those steering the ship don’t understand the party’s foundation,” Fabiyi remarked.
He questioned the contributions of key figures in the early 2000s, saying: “Where was Wike in 2003? Damagun was with the ANPP, and Makinde wasn’t even in politics at the time.”

According to him, their absence during the party’s critical struggles reflects in their lack of deep commitment to its guiding principles. He added that their influence has further weakened the PDP’s relevance at the national level.
Fabiyi also condemned the National Executive Council (NEC) for zoning the 2027 presidential ticket to the South. He described the move as a product of narrow ambitions rather than genuine concern for the PDP’s progress.
“That zoning arrangement was not in the spirit of the PDP’s culture. It was engineered by allies of Wike who are pursuing selfish interests, not what is best for the party,” he said.
