The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday admitted that the All Progressives Congress has become a major challenge for him in Rivers State.
Wike, a former governor of the state, made this remark during his monthly media chat in Abuja, where he reflected on the shifting political terrain and the unprecedented influence of the ruling party at the federal level.
He went on to stress that the scale of federal recognition was unlike anything the state had ever witnessed.
“Since the history of Rivers State, be it military or civilian, we have never had that kind of political appointments at the Federal level, never, so it’s a threat,” he added.
Wike explained that such developments make it difficult to counter APC’s growing influence in the state.

“Even when you are preaching, the people will ask you what are you preaching?” he noted.
The minister concluded that his biggest strength remains the trust his people still place in him despite the political realities.
“APC is a threat to me, whether PDP like it or not, they had the opportunity but the only thing that is going for me now is because my people believe and still have that faith in me,” Wike said.
He pointed out that Rivers State has never received the volume of federal appointments it currently enjoys, a development he described as a serious concern for him as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
“I have a problem as a member of PDP, you know why? What is going on now, I have never seen the level of empowerment of any state than Rivers State in terms of political appointments. It’s a problem for me as a member of PDP,” Wike said.
