Russia and Ukraine on Monday, September 22, 2025, accused each other of launching deadly overnight strikes that left casualties and damaged infrastructure, as the war between the two countries entered another week of heavy aerial exchanges.
Ukrainian officials said Moscow carried out 46 air strikes on several cities overnight, targeting Zaporizhzhia in the south.
Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration, confirmed that at least two people were killed and two others injured, one of them seriously.
He added that five bombs were dropped on Zaporizhzhia city alone, causing damage to residential buildings and other facilities.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that air defence systems intercepted several incoming missiles and drones, but some struck civilian areas.
Kyiv described the assault as another deliberate attempt to terrorise the population and destroy critical infrastructure.
Moscow, in turn, accused Ukraine of carrying out overnight drone and missile attacks on Russian territory.

Russian authorities said they intercepted the majority of incoming projectiles, but acknowledged damage to industrial and energy facilities in border regions.
Casualty figures from the Russian side have not been independently confirmed.
The latest exchange follows weeks of intensified bombardments, with both countries stepping up aerial attacks on cities, energy infrastructure, and military targets.
Each side continues to accuse the other of deliberately targeting civilians.
Independent verification of the claims remains difficult, as access to the affected areas is restricted.
International observers have repeatedly warned that the cycle of retaliatory strikes risks further escalation and increased civilian suffering.
