Activist Mahdi Shehu has weighed in on a viral clip showing individuals writing professional examinations on behalf of others. He argued that Nigeria cannot condemn such malpractice when its leaders openly defend fake or forged academic records.
Sharing the video on his X page on Tuesday, the 23rd of September, 2025, Shehu ridiculed what he called the double standards of the system, noting that exam impersonation is simply a reflection of a much deeper decay in the country.
“This media trial is self-indicting in a country like Nigeria,” he stated.
Shehu maintained that the problem starts at the top, recalling how politicians have brandished fake results, tendered forged certificates later validated by the courts, and even claimed qualifications from schools that never existed. According to him, turning a blind eye to such actions has brought nothing but national shame and international ridicule.

“One cannot aspire to feel the freshness and sweetness of a fried fish whose head was rotten while in the water,” he wrote.
He added that what played out in the exam hall mirrors the reality Nigerians have allowed to thrive. With biting sarcasm, Shehu said the culprits should even be honoured with the title of GCON “for a job well done.”
