The Ogun State Government has restated its drive to strengthen adult and non-formal education as part of efforts to eradicate illiteracy across the state.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, gave the assurance in Abeokuta on Wednesday, the 24th of September, 2025, at a one-day capacity-building workshop for adult education personnel.
The training, themed “Empowering Adult Educators: Harnessing Digital Technology for Adults and Non-formal Education”, was organised by the Agency for Mass Education.
Opening the session, Arigbabu stressed that mass literacy remains a central focus of the current administration. He explained that government programmes in this area are targeted at improving literacy levels, which in turn affect the state’s social and economic growth.
He added that the workshop was designed to sharpen the skills of participants and keep them updated on emerging practices in adult and non-formal education.
Highlighting government’s ongoing interventions, Arigbabu pointed to regular payment of honoraria, consistent funding for supervision of literacy centres, and the establishment of new centres as part of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment.

“We have touched every aspect of the education sector including Agency for Mass Education, our administration has placed mass literacy, adult and Non-Formal education at the heart of its education policy, we will continue to prioritise eradication of illiteracy in Ogun State,” Arigbabu affirmed.
In her contribution, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, who was represented by Mrs. Mary Okereafor, encouraged participants to fully engage in the sessions by sharing knowledge and seeking clarifications.
Delivering her welcome remarks, the Director of Education at the Agency for Mass Education, Mrs. Abosede Odulesi, explained that the programme would focus on digital resources and practical approaches that can make knowledge transfer more inclusive and effective in adult education.
