The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State has suspended a former governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, alongside his ally, Kunle Folarin, over alleged anti-party activities.
The suspension was confirmed in a statement on Tuesday, August 19, by the party’s Director of Publicity, Nuberu Olufemi, following a State Working Committee meeting presided over by APC chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi.
According to the statement, Daniel, from Ward 4 in Sagamu Local Government, and Folarin, from Ward 6 in the same council, were investigated by their wards after petitions of misconduct and anti-party behaviour were raised against them.
“Ward 4, Sagamu Local Government set up a disciplinary committee on the alleged misconduct bordering on anti-party activities committed by Senator Gbenga Daniel. Similarly, Ward 6, Sagamu Local Government set up a disciplinary committee on the allegations of gross misconduct and anti-party activities allegedly committed by Hon. Kunle Folarin,” the statement read.

The APC noted that both men were invited to appear before their respective committees but “failed to respond to the invitations extended to them in writing, failed to provide a written defence, and failed to attend the disciplinary meetings at which they were to be given the opportunity to defend themselves.”
Olufemi added that the committees also received complaints that the duo had been “harassing party members and warning them against cooperating with the committees,” while allegedly using their influence to pressure members into withdrawing petitions.
“In view of this development, the committees resolved to protect the integrity of the disciplinary process and to eliminate interference by the members under investigation.
“Upon due consideration, the committees suspended the members indefinitely, pending further investigation and the outcome of the inquiry,” the statement continued.
The suspensions, already ratified by the State Working Committee, the party stressed, underscore its commitment to discipline and respect for its constitution.
