Amaechi’s Presidential Bid Already Doomed, Dead on Arrival —Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the 2027 presidential ambition of former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, saying it stands no chance.

Wike made the remarks on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, August 19, where he insisted Nigerians would not support Amaechi’s presidential bid.

Amaechi, who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2025, is seeking the ADC’s ticket for the 2027 election.

He had earlier lost to Bola Tinubu in the APC’s 2022 presidential primary, finishing second.

But Wike argued that his predecessor in Rivers State will not even secure the ADC ticket.

“He (Amaechi) knows he won’t get the ticket. I read that he said he knows the weaknesses of the president, so he knows how to defeat him, but he also knew the weaknesses of the president in 2022 when the president defeated him mercilessly in the primary,” Wike said.

“Nigerians know the last person they will give a ticket to because they know it (Amaechi’s bid) is dead on arrival.”

The minister also criticised Amaechi’s record in public office, alleging that he had no respect for the judiciary or the rule of law during his years as governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015.

Wike succeeded Amaechi in office and held the position for eight years, but their relationship has since broken down.

Although a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike currently serves in President Tinubu’s cabinet and has often been accused of fuelling division within his party.
