Federal investigators are examining former FBI Director James Comey’s 2020 testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, sources confirmed on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
The inquiry centers on whether Comey misled Congress regarding his handling of the FBI’s investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.
The Clinton email investigation initially concluded in 2016 that she had been “extremely careless” in handling classified information but did not recommend criminal charges.
However, in October 2016, just 11 days before the presidential election, Comey sent a letter to Congress announcing that the FBI had reopened the probe after discovering additional emails on a separate device linked to Clinton aide Huma Abedin and her husband, former Congressman Anthony Weiner.
