A Nigerian Police Officer identified as Inspector Aminu Ibrahim, serving with the Kano state command, has died from an accidental discharge while on duty in the Hotoro area of Kano.
According to intelligence Sources quoted by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, on Sunday, the incident occurred on Saturday, when the officer attached to Hotoro Division reportedly entered a toilet within the premises of Basnaj Global Resources Limited, Hotoro.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Ibrahim accidentally shot himself in the stomach while squatting, with his loaded AK-47 rifle hanging around his neck.
The rifle, with registration number GT 4177, was recovered cocked and unsafe, alongside an empty shell.
Twenty-nine rounds of ammunition were accounted for against the 30 earlier issued to him.

The victim was rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where he was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.
His corpse has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.
All efforts by First Daily correspondent on Sunday to reach the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna, proved abortive.
