The United States has congratulated Nigeria on the occasion of its 65th Independence anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between both nations.
In a statement posted on the official X handle of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria on Wednesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio commended the country’s resilience and leadership since gaining independence in 1960.
“On behalf of the United States of America, I extend my warmest congratulations to the people of Nigeria on the 65th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence,” Rubio said.
He noted that Nigeria had remained a beacon of resilience and leadership for more than six decades, while emphasizing the importance of shared democratic values, a growing commercial partnership, and cooperation in promoting peace and security.

“On this special occasion, we celebrate the rich cultural heritage, entrepreneurial spirit, and unwavering determination of the Nigerian people. Rubio concluded by wishing Nigeria continued progress and prosperity in the years ahead, underscoring Washington’s readiness to maintain and expand areas of mutual cooperation.
