The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected cultists following a violent clash between rival groups in the Onireke and Isashi areas of Badagry.
Command spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Sunday, noting that the suspects — aged between 28 and 43 — were nabbed during a coordinated operation that swiftly restored calm to the affected communities.
According to Adebisi, police operatives responded to a distress call at about 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, reporting a clash between cult groups.
The prompt intervention of the command’s tactical team and detectives prevented further bloodshed and rescued three victims, who were immediately rushed to the hospital.
“Sadly, one of the victims was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty at Badagry General Hospital,” Adebisi said.
A follow-up raid in the area led to the arrest of five suspects believed to be involved in the attack and killing.
Recovered items included one locally made pistol, two pump-action guns, 52 live cartridges, two expended cartridges, a Toyota Avalon (registration number KTU 610 JB), a laptop, mobile phones, and other weapons.

The suspects, now in custody, will be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
Adebisi added that efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing cult members, with heightened patrols and surveillance to forestall any reprisal attacks.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, commended the operatives for their swift and professional response, reiterating the command’s commitment to rooting out cultism and violent crimes in Lagos State.
He urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious activities to nearby police stations.
