FCT Police Foil One-Chance Robbery, Arrest Four, Rescue Two Victims

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a notorious one-chance robbery gang and rescued two victims, including a woman who was nearly kidnapped in Abuja.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, announced the development in a statement on Sunday, disclosing that the suspects were apprehended following a distress call and a swift tactical response by operatives from the Life Camp Division.

According to Adeh, the incident occurred on October 8, 2025, around 10:09 p.m., when a woman identified as Hajara Ali reported to the Life Camp Police Station that her sister, Comfort Habila, had been abducted by unknown assailants who demanded ₦1 million for her release.

Acting promptly on the intelligence, the police launched a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of the suspects—identified as Solomon Tanko, Samuel Audu, Chigozie Joseph, and Emmanuel Chidiebere—at Dape Village in the early hours of October 9.

During the confrontation, two victims, Comfort Habila and Aliyu Adams, were rescued. Adams, who sustained multiple stab wounds, was rushed to Gwarinpa General Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Items recovered from the suspects include 15 international passports, two daggers, two cutlasses, bloodstained documents, four mobile phones, two hammers, and three biros.

Adeh said investigations revealed that the suspects had been terrorising residents around the Bannex and Kado districts of Abuja, using a tinted-window vehicle to lure unsuspecting passengers before robbing them of their belongings.

“Further investigation showed that the suspects had carried out a series of one-chance robberies around the Bannex and Kado areas, targeting both male and female victims,” Adeh stated.

She added that the suspects would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

The police reiterated their commitment to tackling one-chance robberies—an increasingly prevalent form of urban crime in Abuja where unsuspecting commuters are robbed or assaulted after boarding fake commercial vehicles.

The FCT Police Command also urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid boarding unregistered vehicles, and report suspicious movements to security authorities through available emergency lines.
