The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council, Lagos State, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran labour leader and pro-democracy activist, Comrade Abiodun Aremu, describing him as a “revolutionary soldier of justice and the people’s struggle.”
Aremu, who served as the Secretary of the Joint Action Front (JAF), reportedly died on Sunday, October 12, 2025, after he was struck by a vehicle near his residence in Ota, Ogun State. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but efforts to revive him proved unsuccessful.
According to reports, the late activist was initially scheduled for burial on Monday, October 13, but the Nigeria Labour Movement has postponed the interment to Thursday, October 23, to allow broader participation in the funeral rites.
In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Ridwan Ajayi, on Monday, NANS Lagos described Aremu’s death as a monumental loss to Nigeria’s labour, civil society, and student movements.
The association praised his lifelong commitment to justice, equality, and social transformation.
“Comrade Aremu’s demise is not only a loss to the labour and civil society movement but also to the student community, which continues to draw inspiration from his unwavering dedication to justice, equity, and freedom,” the statement read.
The students hailed the late activist as “one of the pillars of the people’s movement,” noting that his voice “stood firm in defence of the voiceless,” while his actions “embodied courage and sacrifice for a better Nigeria.”

His revolutionary spirit will continue to guide the conscience of our movement and inspire the next generation of activists,” the statement added.
The association extended condolences to Aremu’s family, colleagues in the labour movement, and comrades across the country, praying for his soul to rest in peace.
